Thailand Open Kart Prix Round 1, Bira, February 21st 2010 Print

The first Round of the new Thailand Open Karting Prix was held on Bira karting track in Pataya.
Jonathan entered the Super KF class, the hardest class of the event.

During the practice sessions, Jonathan was among the fastest with his new materiel: the Monza kart and a Iame SKF. There was some drivers from overseas joining in the same class.

The qualifying session took place on Saturday late afternoon. It rained all early afternoon and it stopped for the qualifying. The track was almost dry and Jonathan qualified in 1st position! With a 53.1 and the 2nd place Driver Andrew was at 53.8.

Sunday, was the racing day. Jonathan had to do 2 qualifying heats, a pre-final and a Final.

During the 2 qualifying heats, Jonathan stayed on his first position and secured it.

In the pre-final, Jonathan struggled because he felt there was a problem with the acceleration at the exit out of the slow corners, all the other drivers were catching him up on these points. He defended well his first position until the 4 last laps of this race zhe couldn’t keep him up so Jonathan finished 2nd.

In the Final, Jonathan was starting 2nd. Prosport asia tried their best to fix the problem with the engine. After a good start, he stayed in 2nd place, he tried to overtake the leader but he missed by close. He stays on his tail for about 3 laps until Andrew overtakes him out of a slow corner. The problem wasn’t solved. Jonathan fought hard to get back in front but he couldn’t. He crossed the finish line in 3rd, close of Andrew.

It was a good new experience for Jonathan for his first time racing in SKF.

He would like to thank Prosport Asia, Mike Ord, his parents and his friends for supporting him during this though event.

Next race will be at S.C. Motorsport Saraburi (Thailand) on 4th April 2010 (2nd Round Thailand Open Kart Prix 2010).
